DIY Ringflash Round #1
In the quest to increase my photographic range, I wanted to make a ringflash adapter for my borrowed Canon Speedlite 430EX. With a lack of decent tools and materials, I followed Sam Potter‘s DIY Ringlight tutorial, which uses mostly cardboard. To it’s credit, it works pretty well especially given my shoddy construction and incomplete nature (no ‘top section’ or diffuser), and it was made entirely out of materials I had laying around the house.
Unfortunately, it isn’t much to look at, nor is it incredibly durable. I don’t exactly have faith in it not toppling over with the weight of the flash and batteries.
And a few test shots using the ringflash (Canon EOS 400D, 18-55 f3.5-5.5 kit lens)
I think I’ll try to make another soon, using soft-ish plastics. I’m thinking Bunnings and some psuedo-terracotta potplant pots and/or the water trays. Aluminum foil is still probably the best deflective material available though.
