Netizen status restored!
During all of 2008, I lost my status as netizen. Thankfully, this month I’ve had the status restated – I’ve got ADSL2+!
Before I was married and living at home, we had Optusnet Cable, which (given the low uptake of it in the area) meant speeds of 10mbit/s were not only doable, but regularly achieved. The only thorns in the connection were the upload speed – 256kbit/s – and the download quota.
Because of restrictions in the exchange, the fastest affordable internet connection was 1.5MBit/256k through Exetel. While the service was rock solid and features good, the speed was just lacking.
Despite a lengthy set back process from iiNet (tip for you guys: make sure you actually process the applications, not wait for people to call!), we are now on iiNet’s ADSL2+ service, and its fast!

1688KB/s or 1.6MB/s! And this isn’t the top speed I’ve seen, just the highest when I’d thought to take a screenshot! Upstream I’ve been peaking at about ~100KB/s, which certainly isn’t shabby – those vimeo uploads are a little bit less painful now ;)
